Dunham Outfitting Does It Again
Every serious hunter who travels to Saskatchewan to hunt whitetail Deer dreams of a “buck of a lifetime.” The mental preparation, financial commitment and dedication that it takes to get that Deer is a process that culminates into literally hundreds of hours in time. Researching your outfitter, organizing the travel arrangements, and preparing yourself to sit for 8-10 hours a day on stand in Saskatchewan is truly a commitment. At Dunham Outfitting that commitment is respected and returned in a first class outfitting business with an operation and Deer that cannot be surpassed. In the last 10 years Dunham Outfitting has harvested 4 Deer that scored over 200 inches and numerous other Boone and Crockett record book “booners”. When a client books with Dunham Outfitting they get the feeling that the opportunity to harvest a great Deer is truly a reality.
That Reality became truth for Michael Smith from Andalusia, Alabama. Michael booked with his friend and long time client of Dunham outfitting, Norman Hobson. This was Michael’s second trip to Saskatchewan with us. On Monday November 15th, the “Buck of a Lifetime,” walked out of the wilderness in front of Michael. His guide Ryan dropped off Michael in the stand early that morning. While in the stand he saw numerous Deer throughout the day. The distance to the stand was about a twenty-five minute quad ride. Usually all you see during the day is wildlife but on this day it was different. At about 3:00 in the afternoon Michael heard a Quad coming and radioed Ryan to see if it was He. It was not. The local conservation officer decided that it was time to do compliance checks on outfitters. After inspecting the site and banging Mike’s gun on the shack during the weapons check the officer left and peace returned. Twenty minutes later the Deer walked down the path where the officer left and meandered towards the bait. Michael gathered himself and began to assess the giant Deer. During a orientation talk that Dan, the outfitter gives, it is clearly stated that,” you should video the Deer on the ground!” Michael was trained too well by Norm because he instinctively reached for his video camera.
Two and a half minutes passed before Mike decided that this is a Deer that he should look at through his scope. One shot and the Deer of a lifetime lay one hundred twenty yards away. The monster grew bigger as Michael approached. All the planning and preparation came full circle in the wilderness thanks to Dunham Outfitting. Mission accomplished.
This Deer is a mainframe 10 point with 20 plus inches of extra scoreable bone. When Dan speaks to the quality of Deer and what to look for this of course is a “no brainer”. The 2010-year was a good one for most outfitters in Saskatchewan but it was especially good for Dunham outfitting. This Deer plus all the others displayed on our site are only some of what was seen during the countless hours over 5 weeks. The Commitment that is mentioned earlier is returned by Dunham Outfitting as they have lowered the number of clients taken by over 50%. This is what can be attributed to harvesting a” Deer of a lifetime.” The decrease in the number of Deer harvested has helped balance out the recent severe winters that hit Saskatchewan. When you are looking for a hunt and an opportunity to get a book Deer you need to call us. Dunham outfitting is in the business for the long run and we like to build friendships with our clients who return yearly to see what another day in the stand can bring.
Enjoy and appreciate the site. I will be waiting for the call.
Thanks to all who hunted with us this and every year past.
